+ Range “Flight” Safety Engineer C

Salary Range: $95-$105K
Full-time: 40 Hrs/wk

Experience: 15 yrs Aerospace engineering. Specific experience (additional or within the 15 yrs experience in aerospace engineering): 5 yrs Range Flight Safety Experience; In addition, personnel shall have experience as a technical course instructor.

Highly Desirable Skills: 

  • An understanding of the NASA Range Flight Safety mission, associated policies and requirements, NASA roles and responsibilities, and instructor experience.

Job Description: Contractor position supports NASA Agency Range Flight Safety Manager. 

  • Coordinate activities and actions with other NASA center’s range safety personnel and others such as the FAA and DoD, to formulate, recommend, and evaluate policies, procedures, and standards and to ensure that NASA programs use range safety practices that are consistent with applicable laws, national standards, and NASA requirements. 
  • Support the establishment and updates of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Range Safety requirements and processes.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings and working groups in the range safety community to support development of common requirements and standards.
  • Provide technical review and interface with programs developing new Range Safety Systems such as Enhanced Flight Termination System (EFTS) and Autonomous Flight Safety System (AFSS). 
  • Review/update training course materials for the Range Flight Safety training program specifically the Range Safety Orientation course.
  • Maintain and teach course curriculum for various Range Flight Safety training program courses that are offered to various government agencies.

+ Senior Software Safety Person

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Primary evaluator for software updates/modifications to deployed and developmental sensors to identify potential safety issues.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • MS/MA degree in related field or 15 years of related experience
  • Familiar with software development, coding standards, IV&V, software analysis, risk identification
  • Familiar with material release process for the Army is preferred

+ Senior System Safety Person

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Provide System Safety support to the Missile Defense Agency’s Sensors program. Must be able to work autonomously as well as part of an integrated team.

+ Safety Manager

This individual will serve as the Environment and Components Test Directorate (ECTD) Safety Manager at Redstone Test Center (RTC), reporting directly to the ECTD Directorate Chief. Will supervise and coordinate the safety activities of the division safety personnel at five divisions within the directorate. Will interact and coordinate with other U.S. Army, Redstone Arsenal, RTC, local, state, federal and contractor organizations with regard to safety.

Experience: 15 yrs Safety engineering principles and analytical tools, Hazard assessment, and safety operations/ hazard mitigation assessments.
Highly Desirable Skills: 

  • An extensive understanding safety engineering analysis/ hazard mitigations/ safety operations.
  • Experience in the areas of cryogenics, ordnance/SRM, hypergolic, inert gases, and overall safety requirements for launch vehicle and payload processing.   
  • Proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must possess very good oral and written communications skills.

Job Description:
Contractor position supporting NASA KSC S&MA.

  • Provide support for the SA-F GSDO Safety Engineering team. Required to develop system safety analysis and process program safety hazard analysis; Provide risk based decision making.
  • Provide Safety engineering inputs for GSDO Verifications and Validation efforts.
  • In support of the Ground Systems Development Organization (GSDO), provide support to all aspects of GSDO utilizing system safety engineering principles/ processes.  
  • Review and provide comments on GSDO hazard reports/ RSARS/ FMEAs and various other required safety related documents. 
  • May perform various safety studies/ assessments in support of the NASA S&MA office.

+ Intermediate Engineer

Requirements: BS degree with 5-7 years of experience in safety, familiar with MIL-STD-882, able to work as part of an integrated team with little oversight. Good communication skills, basic computer skills, able to develop documentation, identify and analyze risks, knowledgeable in the handling and assembly, and test of large rocket motors. MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE; Job location:  Orlando, FL; Job Req.  2017-004.

+ Program Manager - DC Area

Requirements/Qualifications:
Position requires responsible, motivated professional who will be able to work remotely with APT personnel in HSV. Position will coordinate and manage APT activities in the DC area, and must be able to travel locally regularly (and other travel occasionally). Good writing and presentation skills required.  Engineering or other technical degree preferred.  Background in explosives safety or effects/consequence modeling would be a significant factor. Prior FBI or ATF work experience desired. Candidates need a good work ethic, and able to multitask.  Some travel required.  Position at times requires field work.  Anticipated start date:  May 2017

+ Software Test Engineers

The Apache PPSS project has immediate opening for 2 or 3 Software Test Engineers.

  • The candidate will be performing Software Test and Integration tasks for the Apache helicopter Operational Flight Program.
  • Hands on abilities to work on flight aircraft as well as in a laboratory environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to synthesize customer contractual needs & requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test procedures and test reports.
  • Provide testability analysis of the requirements and an evaluation for completeness of the test program for all levels of testing. 
  • Generate test scripts in support of system integration and performance testing. 
  • Work with software developers as needed to help diagnose and identify the root cause of problems found during software integration. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret.
  • BS Degree in Electrical / Software Engineering plus 7+ years relevant experience.
  • Must be proficiency in C/C++ programming, Ada is a plus.
  • Must be proficiency in scripting languages (such as Perl, bsh/ksh/csh).
  • Must be comfortable working in Windows and Linux/Unix.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as Software Test Engineer.
  • Shall have a full understanding of all aspects of aircraft testing to include requirements definition, instrumentation, data processing, test planning, test conduct and test reporting.

+ System Safety Personnel

APT is seeking System Safety personnel (2 positions) to support the U.S Army’s Precision Fires Rockets & Missiles Program Office.

Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Safety Engineering, or another related technical field.  MS is desired.
  • 5+ years’ experience providing System Safety engineering and/or advisory support.
  • Proficiency with MS Office© (Word©, Excel©, PowerPoint©, Outlook©).
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills, good communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers.
  • Experience with DoD Systems Development process is desired.  Particular experience with field artillery and/or major armaments development, testing, fielding, and/or production is also a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance.  Current clearance is a big discriminator.

+ Software Airworthiness Personnel

APT is seeking a Software Engineer to support the airworthiness process of the Blackhawk rotary wing aircraft.  Candidate will provide independent software airworthiness assessments of the software development lifecycle artifacts.  Candidate must have knowledge of full lifecycle system and software engineering processes; Experience in software development process for safety and mission critical software components.  Candidate must be proactive and a team player. Ability to work multiple tasks as assigned.  Successful candidate must have excellent communication skills.

Required Skills:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle process.
  • Obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
  • Travel may be required.

Desired Skills: Potential candidate should be familiar with Civil and Military airworthiness qualification requirements (e.g. DO-178, DO-254, MIL-STD-882, SAE ARP 4754, and SAE 4761) Working knowledge of DOORS and Model Based Development tools are desired.

+ Software Safety Engineer

Job description: Participate as a team member of Software Safety team for a critical DoD Weapon System program. As a member of the team work alongside other contractors performing software safety and V&V analysis of requirements, design, code, and testing. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the SED government Lead by providing weekly and periodic status reports and technical reports as requested.
  • Review software requirements, design, and verification analyses, documentation and or models for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements.
  • Also review software source code, code generation processes and models, build procedures, etc. for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements.
  • Participate in IPTs, software design reviews, code reviews, test plan reviews, test report reviews, and problem report reviews, as requested.

Qualifications, experience or knowledge in the following areas are essential:

  • Software development or V&V analysis experience with safety critical software
  • Ability to express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports
  • Familiarity with software development/lifecycle IEEE 12207, MIL-STD-498, etc.
  • Familiarity with one or more software languages; C, C++, C#, Ada,

Experience or knowledge in the following areas are highly desirable:

  • Familiarity / Experience with performing /evaluating:
    • Government technical reports
    • Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs) (MIL-STD-882E task 208 or ARP 4761

  • Experience with Model Based Software Development, familiarity with Matlab and Simulink, Rhapsody, DOORS, SCADE, etc.;
  • Familiarity with software development and evaluation tools such as: McCabe, LDRA, Coverity, Klocwork, Polyspace, Understand, etc.;
  • Familiarity with systems engineering development processes;
  • Familiarity with STAMP/STPA;
  • Familiarity with Civil and military airworthiness qualification and Software Safety requirements, such as: DO-178B, JSSSH, DO-278, DO-254, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882, AMCOM REG 385-17, SAE ARP 4754, and SAE ARP 4761.

Required Education experience:

+ Safety Personnel

Qualifications: All safety personnel shall have at least four years of applicable experience in at least three of the four functional areas listed below.

  • Large missile, space vehicle, rocket, torpedo, prelaunch, launch, post-launch operations and/or recovery operations.
  • System safety hazard analysis and/or design, or research and development testing of ordnance, explosives, other types of munitions, pyrotechnics, cryogenic, toxic/hypergolic propellants, high pressure gases, radioactive materials, or other hazardous systems/components.
  • Nuclear safety and/or ionizing/non-ionizing radiation safety hazard analysis and/or design, or research and development testing.
  • Preparation and/or review and approval of hazardous operating procedures for space vehicle, missile, and/or weapons systems.

Personnel who prepare or provide detailed safety engineer review of launch complex safety analyses, reports, documentation, and hazardous procedures shall have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and a CSP or PE.
